Baku - Old City Walking Tour

Breakfast in hotel, begin the discovery in Baku by a walking tours. Baku is no exception. The Baku Walking Tour begins in the Icheri Sheher and takes tourists on a historical journey through the different eras. From the medieval times of the Islamic Shirvanshahs through the first oil boom and the Soviet Union to the modern day. Highlights include seeing Maiden Tower, learning about the architectural styles in the Old City and getting an enriched historical and cultural experience.

Baku is the Old City or Icheri Sheher (Inner City) with its fortress walls and Maiden Tower could be more than a millennium old, dating back to sometime between the 7th and 12th centuries. Today, it’s a symbol of the old town. These fascinating structures are in fact included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Among the new landmarks of Baku one can distinguish the magnificent Flame Towers building, Heydar Aliyev Center and the sports, leisure and entertainment complex, Crystal Hall. You will to visit Shirvanshahlar Castle, is the biggest monument of the Shirvan-Absheron branch of the Azerbaijan architecture. The complex contains the main building of the palace, Divanhane, the burial-vaults, the shahs mosque with a minaret, Seyid Yahya Bakuvis mausoleum, a portal in the east - Murads gate, a reservoir and the remnants of the bath-house. The palace is depicted on the obverse of the Azerbaijani 10,000 manat banknote of 1994-2006, and of the 10 new manat banknote issued since 2006.

Next, stroll through The Boulevard along the Caspian is a beautiful, stretches for 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles) along the Caspian Sea from Freedom Square, opposite House of Government, to Flag Square in the west. Apart from the views, the promenade has an amusement park, mini-Venice, the Baku Eye and several bars and cafés. You’ll also pass DALGA Plaza and the Caspian Waterfront Mall in the midsections, providing air conditioning during the hot summers. The area gets active with young families after dark.

Baku - Sheki

Filled with hotel breakfast, check out and depart to Sheki, en route you will pass by Shamakhi city & Ismayilli city, lets discover these mesmerising sceneries and beautiful villages.

After 1.5 hours drive duration, you will first reach Shamakhi, which is an ancient Azerbaijan city. It started in the 5th century BC. In the 9 th -16 th centuries it was the capital of Shirvan Empire, a residence of Shirvan Dynasty it is by right considered one of the most beautiful cities of the Orient. In the mid-18th century it used to be the center of Shamakhi Khanate. The main landmark of the city is Gulistan fortress (11 th – 12 th centuries) – the last refuge of Shirvan Dynasty built for the citys defense. Equally interesting are the mausoleum of Addy-Gyumbez (“The Seven Domes”) with numerous burial places of Shamakhi governors, Djuma cathedral mosque (10th century, reconstructed in the 19 th century), numerous ruins of the 10 th – 17 th centuries. Present day Shamakhi is a recognized center of winemaking and carpet weaving. Besides, it is a city of literature since it was the native land of many Azerbaijani poets. Right near Shamakhi there is an amazing place called Pirkuli famous for its snowy hills. It is probably the only place in sunny Azerbaijan where you can enjoy active winter pastime: skiing and snowboarding.

Continue another hour scenic journey to Ismayilli, situated on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus, surrounded by forests and mountains, the Ismayilli region, drowning in greenery, is one of the most beautiful regions of Azerbaijan. Ismayilli is part of the historical region of Shirvan. The territory of the district, as well as all the territories of Northern Azerbaijan, was part of the Caucasian Albania. Here a large number of ancient monuments of different periods are preserved. Ismayilli is rich in folk art traditions. People of Ismayilli belong to many different nations and ethnic groups. For example, the descendants of the Molokans who resettled here from Russia live in the famous in Azerbaijan village Ivanovka. The village Lahij, located at an altitude of 1,200 m above sea level, is the home for Tats, who, however, call themselves Lahij people. Known since the VII century, this small city, which is located in the mountains, up to this day is famous for its copper weapons and utensils. Basgal village is also widely known. In the Middle Ages it was one of crafts and silk spinning centers. Ismayilli is also one of the wine-making centers in Azerbaijan.

Sheki - Oghuz

Sheki is in northern Azerbaijan on the southern part of the Greater Caucasus mountain range, 325 km from Baku. Sheki is not only surrounded by beautiful scenery, it’s a beautiful village itself. Archaeological data show that Sheki has been inhabited for about 2,500 years, making it one of the oldest cities in the Caucasus.

Visit the most famous sight in Sheki is the Sheki Khans Palace, featuring incredible craftsmanship and built without using a single nail where you will pay a visit too. This palace was nominated for list of World Heritage Sites UNESCO. This palace were built 1790-1797.Along with its pool and plane trees, the summer residence is the only remaining structure from the larger palatial complex inside the Sheki Khans Fortress, which once included a winter palace, residences for the Khans family and servants quarters. It features decorative tiles, during the eighteenth century. Many of the frescoes feature flowers in vases, while a series of paintings on the first floor halls depict hunting and battle scenes.

Sheki is a major crafts center and you will visit the expansive Taza Bazaar where sells pottery, metalwork and carpets, as well as masses of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and cheese. Saffron is a bargain at just 50q a pouch. Here, you can buy jewelry and engravings made by local artists as well as the national sweets from Shaki people. Sheki has its own theater, a historical museum, and the house museum of the famous writer and philosopher M. F. Ahundov.

Then, you will continue the day tour to Oghuz region by relax & chill while discover the truly natural wanders in forest and waterfalls of Xalxal Village.

Sheki - Gabala

Tour start after breakfast, depart from hotel to Gabala for a full day tour which take about 1.5 hours drive duration per way. Gabala was the ancient capital of Caucasian Albania. Archeological evidence indicates that the city functioned as the capital of Caucasian Albania as early as 4th century BC. The Ruins of the ancient town are situated 15 km from the regional center, allocated on the territory between Garachay and Jourluchay rivers.

Ride in a historic Lada car to the Yeddi gözəl (Seven Beauties) waterfall. This mountainous waterfall flowing from the highest peaks of the Caucasus Mountains and locates in Vandam village of Gabala. The name of the Seven Beauties (Yeddi Gozal) Waterfall originates from the name of the 7 mountain roads that should pass to reach the waterfall. As the waterfall is completely frozen in the winter, it gets harder to get here. But in spring and summer, tea houses are available on every mountain road, where the guests are offered a tea set with traditional types of Gabala jam. At the highest point of the waterfall there is a tea house with a special wooden mattress where you can drink tea with the pleasant sound and scenery of the waterfall in the background. The water of the tea is taken from the waterfall and gives a unique taste to it.

Head to Lake Nohur and take a boat trip, eye-catching Lake Nohur with the magnificent view to Caucasus Mountains, fresh air and water is one of the most picturesque places of Gabala. You will be amazed by the beauty of Lake Nohur. The quiet atmosphere and bird sounds create an ideal relaxation environment to escape from the noise of the city. Although swimming in the lake is prohibited (the lake is also used as a reservoir and provides drinking water for Gabala and surrounding regions), it is a perfect place for fishing.

Take time to explore the city of Gabala and learn about its history from your guide. Funicular trip above big forest and mountains. The city of Gabala includes all mountainous reliefs of mountainous valley. Bazarduzu (4466m), the highest peak of Azerbaijan, is located in Gabala. Moreover, Tufandag, Bazaryurd and Shahdagh peaks, the most important mountainous parts of the country, are in this region.

A visit to Gabaland Amusement Park, It’s not quite Disneyland, but Azerbaijan’s first theme park is a godsend for local families and has something for all ages.

Baku - Absheron Full Day Tour

Start another day to discover Absheron, washed by the waters of the Caspian Sea, Absheron is especially famous for its sandy beaches and numerous suburban settlements as well as the developed infrastructure of its hotels, water parks, cafés and restaurants.

The Absheron Peninsula has preserved a number of historical monuments: the Ateshgah fire temple (XVII-XVIII centuries), The 14th Century Nardaran Castle, the Round Castle (1232) and Quadrangular Castle (XII century) in Mardakan settlement, the 14th Century castle in Ramana and others. Ateshgah – a temple of fire worshippers located in Suraxani village. Zoroastrians travelled thousands of kilometers from India to Ateshgah to worship fire coming out of the earth.

Next, a visit to Denro Park, a favorite place for locals to enjoy a leisurely stroll, the Dendro Parks serve the purpose of respite. The park is adjoined with some of the main attractions of Baku. It was previously renowned as a botanical garden thus owing to the fact there are several beautiful plants and trees here. Towards the end of the park on its northern side, there is a pseudo-Moorish house referred to as Yesenin museum that accommodates some incredible works of the Russian poet.

Later you will enjoy the view of Yanar dag - the infamous burning mountain. In ancient times natural eternal flames were burning in many places of Absheron. Yanar dag was declared State Historical-Cultural and Natural Reserve in order to protect natural monument.

Baku - Quba Full Day Tour

Tour to Quba city which is a small city located in Quba-Khacmaz district of Azerbaijan on the north-eastern slopes of Shahdag ridge about 168 km (2 hours 30 minutes drive) away from Baku not far from Russian border.

During your Quba tour you will see main attractions of the city and wander its orderly grid of quiet leafy streets and admiring the 19th-century houses and distinctive mosques. Notice also the decrepit century-old Gümbəzli hamam (bathhouse) with its big beehive dome. Nizami Park is a pleasant tree-shaded retreat overlooking the broad gravel bed of the Qudiyalçay River. During tour you will have chance to visit town of Krasnaya Sloboda , home to a unique Jewish community with two active synagogues. You can watch Quba’s famous carpets being made at Qadim Quba, which also has a delightful boutique selling them along with handicrafts and paxlava (alternating layers of chopped nuts and white, stringy, fried pastry, all saturated in a sickly sweet syrup). Port Baku Mall is the oldest and the most luxurious in the city. It presents stores of the worlds most popular brands, the likes of which you wont find in other shopping centers in Baku. It will be exciting to take a walk here in search of exclusive brand clothes and accessories. Frugal buyers will be pleased with a decent choice of middle-class stores. Besides clothing shops, there are some jewelry and perfume shops.
