Don’t be fooled by the appearance of this quaint coastal town. The once-humble fishing village is a centre of industry surrounded by centuries-old rainforests and natural wonders. An alternative gateway to many natural beauties, Bintulu offers a lifetime of experience in the cradle of nature’s bosom.
 
PLACES OF INTEREST
1. Kuan Ying Tong Temple
A majestic Chinese temple adorned with a man-made waterfall, koi pond, rock garden and dragon fencing.
 
 
2. Masjid Assyakirin
Bintulu’s largest mosque is unique with its upturned bud-shaped dome and a minaret separate from the main structure, surrounded by landscaped gardens.
 
 
3. Similajau National Park
Bintulu’s not-to-be-missed national park is a stunning combination of beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforest with exotic flora and fauna, popular for its walking trails. It is also home to Golden Beach, one of Malaysia’s best little-known beaches and a turtle-hatching site.
 
 
4. Taman Tumbina
Enjoy a wide variety of flora and fauna from crocs to cacti, hornbills and hibiscus at this mini zoo and botanical garden offering beautiful views of the South China Sea.
 
 
5. Kampung Jepak
Step into a villager’s shoes and cross the Kemena River by bot tambang (river taxi) to experience the traditional way of life in this friendly fishing village
 
 
6. Pantai Temasya (Tanjung Batu Beach)
The footpath is lined with towering 40-metre high Casuarina trees (a natural habitat for the cicadas), making the beach a favourite retreat among locals to jog, stroll or have a simple barbeque by the beach.
 
 
7. Bintulu Promenade
The 120-acre recreational park is located near the delta of Kemena River. Do as the locals do and walk along Sarawak’s longest waterfront pathway to enjoy the scenic sunset and the fresh evening breeze.
 
 
8. Pasar Utama
Fruits and vegetables, meat, and seafood direct from the wharf, plus local specialties at the food court and souvenir items at very cheap prices to boot!
 
 
9. Tamu Bintulu
A popular place for fresh fruits, farm produces, dry goods and souvenirs, adjacent to Pasar Utama.
 
 
10. Parkcity Mall
Bintulu’s largest mall offering the best of modern shopping, entertainment and dining
 
 
11. Manok Pansoh
Traditional Iban dish of chicken, mushrooms, lemongrass and tapioca leaves stuffed into bamboo and cooked over an open fire.
