Introduction

The island province of Bohol has it all, and Tagbilaran is where your journey begins. A tropical paradise with lovely white sand beaches, delightful marine life, centuries-old churches, unusual geographical formations, and even stranger fauna, Bohol offers a simple but comfortable lifestyle to travellers who want to get away from the big city.

PLACES OF INTEREST
1. Chocolate Hills Adventure Park
Take 248 steps up to the viewing deck to see the famous Chocolate Hills, over 1,000 natural grass-covered hills that turn chocolate brown during the hot summer months. If you have energy left over, test your balance on the tree top rope course and the canopy walks.

2. Panglao Island
A short ride away from Tagbilaran, the island of Panglao is famous for its beaches. Alona Beach and its bars draw the most visitors, but further out, there are quiet beaches that are just as beautiful. Dumaluan Beach is the home of the exclusive Bohol Beach Club, whilst Doljo Beach has even been named one of the World’s Best Secret Beaches by Travel + Leisure.

3. Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary
Go googly-eyed with one of the world’s smallest primates, the Philippine tarsier, in its natural habitat. If these nocturnal creatures happen to be awake, you might find yourself eye to eye with this fascinating animal.

4. Tarsier Botanika
There are no tarsiers here, but this lovely garden is a world of its own. Make sure to drop by the attached gallery, which houses an impressive art collection.

5. Albur Church
Known for its beautiful painted ceiling, archways and unconventional construction, the Santa Monica Parish Church in Alburquerque town dates from the late 19th century.

6. Loboc River Cruise
What’s more pleasant than a simple hour-long cruise on a floating restaurant, surrounded by lush coconut palms? Enjoy the local dances and the Filipino cuisine on board as you float through the twisting green river.

7. Snorkelling and Diving
A dozen dive sites dot the waters off Bohol and its surrounding islands of Pamilacan, Balicasag and Cabilao, with a variety of underwater creatures ranging from nudibranches to whales. Several dive centres offer a full range of courses. Not ready for scuba diving? Island hopping packages include snorkelling at the Balicasag Island Marine Sanctuary.

8. Bohol Bee Farm
What’s the buzz about the bee farm? It’s a popular stop for souvenirs and food items, and a working agricultural farm with a cliffside resort and a restaurant serving organic produce.

9. Dolphin and Whale Watching
Dolphins, whales and whale sharks can be seen in Bohol, with reformed hunters of these creatures as your spotters and guides. Dolphin sightings occur all year round but the summer season between March and May gives the best chances to see a variety of marine life.

10. Peanut Kisses
These crunchy peanut treats in the shape of the Chocolate Hills are ideal presents to bring home to family and friends.
